Center for Global Health

In loving memory of Sujal Parikh

We say good bye to Sujal Parikh, our friend, our student, our warrior, a global health indefatigable worker and dreamer.  We will continue his work guided by our collectively remembered thoughts, words, and advise that he selflessly gave us.  We invite the CGH family to send us any expressions of condolence or remembrances of Sujal so that we may share them with the University community and especially with his parents in their unimaginable sorrow. We also invite you to send us your ideas for an appropriate tribute to our lost friend.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday, November 14, 2010
2:00 p.m. service with reception to follow
Rackham Graduate School Auditorium, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor

The service is being supported by the Medical School and being organized and planned by his close friends and family. We hope that you will be able to join us. A reception immediately following the service will be held at Rackham.

There is parking available in the Thayer, Fletcher and Palmer parking structures. Note:  The Thayer and Fletcher parking structures will have parking attendants collecting money for an event at the Power Center. Our guests need to say they are there for the memorial service and they will not have to pay.

A Sujal Parikh Memorial Fund has been established. Funds will be used to help support medical student scholarship and broader global educational initiatives that focus on global health disparities and social justice issues that Sujal was most passionate about. Donations to the fund can be made online.

As he so fittingly wrote on his facebook page:

Risk more than others think is safe,
Care more than others think is wise,
Dream more than others think is practical,
Expect more than others think is possible.

-Claude Bissel

Sujal was working as a Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholar in Uganda. Please visit his blog to learn more about his work in Uganda. Sujal was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, attended college at UC Berkeley and was on a break between his third and fourth years in the UM Medical School. CGH featured him in our first newsletter.

Ann Arbor.com posted this story recently.

The University has created a webpage in his honor, Sujal Parikh: Reflections and Memories where you can read more about this extraordinary person and find out how you can make contributions in his name. Below are some of our memories.
