East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes for US Graduate Students

The primary goals of EAPSI are to introduce students to East Asia and Pacific science and engineering in the context of a research setting, and to help students initiate scientific relationships that will better enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts. Most institutes last approximately eight weeks from June to August. Application due: December 8, 2009.

 

World Food Summit in Rome: Nov 16-18

Delegates at the World Summit on Food Security, which kicked off Monday, "rallied around a new strategy to fight global hunger," the Associated Press reports. The group emphasized the importance of agricultural technical assistance to empower farmers in developing nations and produce sustainable change.


Funding Opportunity Announcement for NGO Programs Benefiting Refugees in Afghanistan

Since 2002, more than five million Afghans have returned to Afghanistan. With the large number of refugee returns to Afghanistan, the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration will increase its focus on supporting the durable resettlement and reintegration of returnees through promoting sustainable livelihoods and economic development in Afghanistan. Limited funding is available to support NGOs working in Afghanistan to support refugee repatriation and reintegration. Proposal deadline: November 30, 2009.
